Facing west, connected to the rest of Italy by a strip only a few miles wide, one finds Trieste, a region with a history as remarkable as its location. Located in the northeast region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trieste, is a splendid city with a mix of medieval, neoclassical and modern buildings.  Trieste served as a crossroad of trade in its past, and as a result, the region reflects a truly cosmopolitan essence best revealed by its multi-denominational, ornate churches. Trieste can be observed as one large museum, as it is embellished with ancient Roman Buildings, flavors of 18^th century architecture, Austrian-style structures, as well as so much more.

Trieste’s setting is particularly noteworthy with its white cliffs, azure sea, and rolling emerald hills. Glimpses into Trieste’s fascinating past can be viewed from Capitol Hill’s Roman Ruins, the San Guisto Castle, as well as the Roman Theatre.  A few miles outside of the city, one may discover the Grotta Gigante, which is more than 300 feet tall, making it the largest cave in the world. Sistiana Bay is a fantastic place to visit, a resort area full of hotels and restaurants. Miramare castle, another Trieste highlight was the residence of Maximilian of Habsburg and Charlotte of Belgium. The castle is illustrious and bright and contains innumerable works of art.
